Make-Up Makeover: The Prettiest Look To Fall For
Elizabeth Brous, Contributing Website Editor

Want to freshen-up your makeup look for fall? Think pretty and polished. The must-have makeup to pair with fall's rich, riotous-colored velvets and embellished fabrics is an amped-up version of natural. "It's more sophisticated and grown-up looking than the glowy, glossy, shimmery look of summer," explains Los Angeles makeup pro and Neutrogena consultant Vanessa Scali. "The textures are not as dewy. Skin is lightly powdered so it looks natural, but not too matte, either."

To create the look, start with a sheer foundation that will even-out skin tone and provide some coverage, but is transparent enough to let skin show through. (SkinClearing Clean Tint, with built-in Salicylic Acid, is a great choice for oily or acne-prone skin, while Healthy Skin Enhancer, with Retinol and SPF 20, will help smooth out the look of fine lines while it perfects skin tone). If dark circles or blemishes need extra camouflage, apply concealer to those areas, and then add a light dusting of powder on top. (Healthy Skin Blends translucent oil-control powder is a pressed compact that contains several similarly-hued shades that get swirled together before application, for a natural look.) Pro tip: Run a large, fluffy powder brush over the whole surface of the powder to blend the colors, then tap off excess powder on your wrist before applying.

Swap summer's bronzy cheek color with a warm pink blush applied to the apples of your cheeks. (Healthy Skin Blends also comes in a Sheer Highlighting Blush formula, a range of pinks that blend into a slightly shimmery, rosy hue that's universally flattering on most complexions.)

Eyes stay in the neutral zone with a hint of a beigey shimmer (like Shimmer Sheers All Over Color in Spellbound) applied to lids. Accentuate lashes with Clean Lash Tint, a liquid tint that darkens and defines without a lot of excess goo. (Bonus: Its thinner formula and precision brush makes it an excellent choice for lower lashes, too.) For evening, consider a smokier shadow in a shade of plum or charcoal—perfect for pairing with jewel-toned velvets.

On lips, aim for a natural-looking, lip-toned gloss for daytime. (MoistureShine® Tinted Lip Balm comes in eight sheer, shiny shades and contains SPF 20). At night, create a slightly more intense lip "stain" by taking your favorite lipstick, rubbing it on your finger and using your fingertip to apply color to the center of your lower lip. Smack your lips together to blend color onto your upper lip. Go over with lip balm or gloss to seal in the stain and—voila—subtle, sophisticated glamour that won't steal the thunder from your new fall wardrobe.
