Body Breakouts Explained

While breakouts are often thought of as a facial skincare problem, they can appear all over your body. They are most common on the back, chest and shoulders, where oil glands are plentiful. In general, the causes of body breakouts are the same as those for facial breakouts. Acne is usually related to increased sebum production. Sebum is an oily substance naturally produced by the skin. Excess sebum can mix with dead skin cells that build up in pores, resulting in a clogged pore. The sebum in the clogged pore promotes the growth of a certain bacteria, P. Acnes, which is always present in the skin. The result of this bacterial growth is irritated skin. This leads to the redness and inflammation associated with pimples.
