I burn easily through most sunscreens. I also have very sensitive skin. I have had the best luck with this product this summer, I burned once, through no fault of the sunscreen, I missed a spot. I hope this will be available next summer as well.

I used Beach Defense 70 spray on my arms and legs one afternoon while we were at the beach . Within hours I broke out into an allergic blistered rash only in the areas that were sprayed. It was clearly a reaction to the Beach Defense, as I used another sunscreen all the other days with no problems. Three days later, I'm still covered in a crusty, oozing rash and may be calling my dermo tomorrow. Disappointed in Neutrogena, as I have never had this problem with any of their other products before.

I am very fair and I live in Texas. Before this sunscreen, I would burn most times I was out in the sun, even with sunscreen. This sunscreen (SPF 70) is awesome. When I wear it to the pool or when I'm doing yardwork and sweating profusely, I barely get sun (except in areas that I miss with the spray, which is how I know how well it's working). I don't rub it in. It has been so nice to spend time outside and not get burned. I am really surprised to see all the negative reviews for this product.

My 10 year old son had an allergic reaction to this product. His face became swollen and he had an itchy rash wherever he had sprayed it. He has never had an allergic reaction to other Neutrogena sunscreen products, so I'm not sure what the ingredient is in their Beach Defense sunscreen that caused his allergic reaction.

We had an outing planned to a ride and water park for the day. We applied this sunscreen liberally before entering the park. We applied it again frequently throughout the day. Not only spraying it on, but rubbing it in. As the day progressed, myself, a 13 year old and a 12 year old girl got progressively redder and redder. By the end of the day, we were all very red, but not everywhere. There were splotches where the sunscreen worked and places where it did not. I am sure that Neutrogena is going to respond that this is not normal for this sunscreen, but I spent a lot of money on a multipack at Costco for this stuff to only have it not work? Now, the day after, I am blotchy and will be returning this sunscreen.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by FrecklesInTexas This works very well for me.
I am in the sun 10 hours a day, every weekend from February through Memorial day. I have very fair skin with freckles and have been using this sunscreen because it specifically markets for sensitive skin. Not only have I not sunburned, I haven't really gotten much darker. Several of my friends have commented on how I look as if I spend very LITTLE time in the sun. The smell is pleasant and the spray mist is fine enough I don't feel as if I am drenching myself when I spray. It also, drys quickly without feeling greasy.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0Â by Itsmeoverhere Allergic reaction painful skin rash for Mom and I
My Mom and I both have gotten painful slightly itchy rashes from this sunscreen. We have never had an allergic reaction to sunscreen, but this causes painful rash on us both. I tried it 4 months later with the same results, because I thought something else had caused the rash. I'm not sure if it's an allergic reaction or photo allergic reaction. I usually LOVE Neutrogena products. I don't appreciate Neutrogena's response to the other allergic reaction reports, with a that is not a typical response to our products. Looks like it is a common response.

If I could give this product zero stars, I would. My husband used the product on our first day in Hawaii. He is very fair and applies sunscreen liberally and reapplies. We were outside for over 3 hours, and he reapplied once each hour. That night, his entire chest and arms were splotchy sunburned. We assumed it was something in the way he applied, although being 51 and fair-skinned, he's not new to sunscreen.
The next day, both my husband and daughter used the 70 SPF. My daughter is fair also, and knowing we would be on the beach instead of the pool, we chose the 70 for both. Again, we applied liberally as directed and reapplied. She is burned splotchy, and is very uncomfortable ruining her night, and next few days. I have photos of both, along with the lot #. My husband, from day 2, is as red as I've ever seen him in over 20 years, and has blisters. This after reapplying once per hour??
I purchased this product based on review from consumer reports. Epic fail. It is clear that the product offered NO protection. We have lost at least two days of enjoying Hawaii and a refund doesn't really seem like sufficient compensation. We will never purchase again.
The comments on this page have been similar, and yet Neutrogena replied that this is not typical. I beg to differ. We will supply photos of the burns. I do not, under any circumstances, recommend this product.
