Black Innovators in Skin Health QuickFire Challenge

Did you know that Black dermatologists make up just 3 percent of all dermatologists in the U.S., according to the Journal of the American Medical Association? Yep. It’s no wonder that the beautiful spectrum of skin tones and textures is so often misunderstood. Neutrogena® believes in skin health for all. So, that’s why in partnership with Johnson & Johnson Innovation, we are launching a Black Innovators in Skin Health QuickFire Challenge to help address racial disparities within skincare and make it more inclusive.

Representation matters. Especially when it comes to skin health. That’s why we’re calling on Black innovators across the country to pitch us their ideas to improve skin health for a chance to receive up to $50,000 in grant funding to bring their idea to life.

But wait! There’s more. The awardee will also gain access to our global JLABS network and mentorship. This means top skin health experts within the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies will offer guidance and support as you pursue this journey.

So, how does it work?

Simply apply for the Black Innovators Skin Health QuickFire Challenge online. Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of experts. We’re looking for unique ideas that address inclusivity and have an impact on skin health. You’ll want to consider your plan, the approach and any key resources that’ll make your idea stronger. The more detail the better.

What skincare areas are we interested in?

Neutrogena® has always been rooted in science. We’re looking for solutions that aim to improve skin health, specifically for the Black community. We don’t want to put a box around your brilliance, so ideas can include (but aren’t limited to) these topics:

  • Acne and post-acne scarring
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Scalp care
  • Sun protection

And if you’re interested in product development, skincare product ideas should be ready to hit shelves with 6-18 months.

Are you ready to kick-start your innovation? Applications are now open, and we’re accepting submissions until January 21, 2021. Get everything you need to know over at Black Innovators in Skin Health QuickFire Challenge. Good luck! We can’t wait to see what beautiful new ideas you have.

Editor's Note (June 11, 2021): Did you hear the news?! We've announced our finalists and awardees. See the results here.
