Lobsters & Candy CanesI was so excited to use the new Beach Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 70. The scent was fresh and made putting on sunscreen quite pleasant. I applied evenly and before I went to the beach. I reapplied after 80 minutes as recommended. Later that night it was clear that I had the worst sunburn I can remember. Not only was my skin the color of a lobster the coverage was that of a candy cane. I had splotches and was in quite a bit of pain from the burn. Though the smell is great I do not recommend this product. I left the beach looking like I hadn't even put on any sunscreen.

Allergic reaction painful skin rash for Mom and IMy Mom and I both have gotten painful slightly itchy rashes from this sunscreen. We have never had an allergic reaction to sunscreen, but this causes painful rash on us both. I tried it 4 months later with the same results, because I thought something else had caused the rash. I'm not sure if it's an allergic reaction or photo allergic reaction. I usually LOVE Neutrogena products. I don't appreciate Neutrogena's response to the other allergic reaction reports, with a that is not a typical response to our products. Looks like it is a common response.

This spray gets the job done!I think that this is a great product for those hot days in the park, at the beach, or anywhere where you'll be exposed to the sun for a good length of time. My son plays little league baseball so I tested it out on him as well since his hat doesn't do the best job protecting him from the sun. The product sprayed on easily without much mess and absorbed quickly as I rubbed it in. No sunburn on my little one and he didn't complain that the spray was too heavy like other sunscreen creams i've slathered on him for beach outings. I also love the coconut smell, that was a nice bonus! Definitely plan to purchase more of this product in the future!

Simply fantastic sunscreen!I received Neutrogena Beach Defense Water + Sun Protection Sunscreen Spray Broad Spectrum SPF 30 as a product to try from the Home Tester Club. I spent the weekend pool side with my son and husband and could not have asked for a better sunscreen. I loved the fact that I could spray it on and have full coverage. It truly protected my skin from getting burnt by the son and the bonus factor was that it smelled great and it did not leave a greasy or sticky residue like so many other sunscreens do. This is definitely a sunscreen that I will carry with me from now on! I give it an A+ for coverage, protection, quality and convenience!

Neutrogena beach defense spray on SPFAt first I wasn't convinced that a spray on SPF was going to work. I tested this on myself at the beach. I sprayed in on and it was a nice fine mist. It did a good job of coating the skin evenly. I sprayed this stuff in my face, and all over my arms, and body. The nice thing about this spray, is that I was able to spray my back. I didn't have to rely on someone to help with that. I spent 4 hours at the beach in the sun and water, and after my shower I did not see any burn. I did reapply this one time while I was there, but I was surprised to not see any burns. I burn really easily. I would recommend this, and I am going to try it on my kids next time.

Great Sun protectionMy boyfriend and I went on vacation to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic in March. We took this sunscreen with us to the beach. Great product! No sunburns and not sticky which is great for the beach so the sand doesn't stick to you. Plus didn't make my face break out! Would recommend this to anyone!

LOVE IT!!!I bought this sunscreen mainly because of the smell. Personally I hate wearing normal sunscreen because the smell of it makes me sick, so when I found this one I wanted to try it. I am a redhead and have very fair skin (I get burnt as soon as I come outside), so I am always skeptical about different sunscreens. But this one really works! I put it on every 45min-1hour at a water park (though it could last for 80min in water). It has a very light feel to it.
Side note: Please remember sunscreen becomes inactive when it is in certain temperatures. I found that out in Haiti the hard way when a different brand of sunscreen was not working at all. Always check the back label to make sure you know the temp at which it will quit working. For this sunscreen my can says 120*F.

DO NOT PURCHASE!If I could give this product zero stars, I would. My husband used the product on our first day in Hawaii. He is very fair and applies sunscreen liberally and reapplies. We were outside for over 3 hours, and he reapplied once each hour. That night, his entire chest and arms were splotchy sunburned. We assumed it was something in the way he applied, although being 51 and fair-skinned, he's not new to sunscreen.
The next day, both my husband and daughter used the 70 SPF. My daughter is fair also, and knowing we would be on the beach instead of the pool, we chose the 70 for both. Again, we applied liberally as directed and reapplied. She is burned splotchy, and is very uncomfortable ruining her night, and next few days. I have photos of both, along with the lot #. My husband, from day 2, is as red as I've ever seen him in over 20 years, and has blisters. This after reapplying once per hour??
I purchased this product based on review from consumer reports. Epic fail. It is clear that the product offered NO protection. We have lost at least two days of enjoying Hawaii and a refund doesn't really seem like sufficient compensation. We will never purchase again.
The comments on this page have been similar, and yet Neutrogena replied that this is not typical. I beg to differ. We will supply photos of the burns. I do not, under any circumstances, recommend this product.
